Creating a product configurator is always a challenge that requires precise attention. Gathering all the necessary information is crucial. This includes defining business rules, such as product variants, options with dependencies, and price calculations. Managing this complexity correctly is essential so that the client can operate independently. Additionally, designing a user-friendly interface for a product configurator is a significant challenge. It must integrate numerous choices without making the interface too busy or confusing for the user.

In 2017, Marieke and Jeroen, owners of Hout op Maat, wanted to take a new strategic direction where online sales played an essential role. They asked us to guide their digital transformation.

The online environment was then connected to the woodworking production processes via API integrations. Marieke and Jeroen were closely involved in all developments and optimizations throughout the entire process, even after the webshop and configurator were delivered.
Create unique wooden wall shelves
Van Wijk Houtindustrie is a traditional manufacturing company. Houtopmaat.nl is part of it and offers customers the opportunity to effortlessly create unique, custom-made solid wood wall shelves from Dutch wood.
Result
In the new online environment, end users can design wooden products to their own specifications. We started with one product category, 'custom wall shelf,' and then expanded to other categories such as 'custom tabletop' and 'custom door.' For online visibility and findability, a multi-year plan was established with all online marketing activities. Houtopmaat.nl transforms into an online provider of custom-made solid wood products.

With the growth in the number of webshop orders, the need for process automation has increased. In the realization of the new webshop, we took this into account; orders are now automatically loaded using an API connection, allowing production to start immediately. At each step of the production process, the customer receives an automatic update via email. Furthermore, orders are registered with PostNL, and only a label needs to be printed.
