Meet Tess: our graduation intern and secret lover of “bokkenpootjes"

Whether she’s enjoying a festival, training for a running race with a friend, or devouring a pack of bokkenpootjes after a night out, she approaches everything with enthusiasm. Over the next few months, she’ll be bringing that same energy to her graduation project at Orange Juice. Let us introduce Tess, our new Entrepreneurship & Retail Management graduation intern.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m Tess, 22 years old, and born and raised in Veenendaal. I’m currently studying Entrepreneurship & Retail Management at HAN University in Nijmegen. For my studies and internship, I travel from Veenendaal to Nijmegen and now to Arnhem, luckily it’s manageable. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend or my grandmothers, and I love going to parties and festivals. I’ve also picked up sports again: for the past six months, I’ve been training with a friend for a running race. It’s sometimes tough, but I just want to stay fit and healthy, and training together makes it a lot more fun (and social).

How did you end up at Orange Juice?

For both my previous work placement and this graduation internship, I posted a call on LinkedIn. I received several responses, but the reply from Mattie (Matthijs, TeamLead OM) immediately felt right. Orange Juice also felt familiar because someone I know (Sasja) had previously interned here and spoke very positively about her experience. That gave me a great first impression. From the very first contact, there was an instant connection, warm and personal, something that has continued during my first days here!

What do you hope to learn during your internship?

My program is very broad, giving me a little insight into many areas. Still, I quickly realized that marketing and communication appeal to me the most. I’m particularly interested in SEO and SEA – topics that really caught my attention during my studies. I’m looking forward to deepening my knowledge and skills in these areas during my internship.

What gives you energy in your work or studies?

I get a lot of energy from collaborating with others. Brainstorming and exchanging ideas helps me grow immensely. At the same time, I enjoy figuring things out independently. I also love expressing my creative side, whether it’s through writing, designing, or visual projects. During my Neuromarketing minor, I learned a lot about the customer journey, knowledge that I can also apply in my graduation project.

What makes you laugh or brightens your day?

Exercising always gives me a sense of accomplishment afterward. Humor and laughter are really important to me, they make a big difference in a day. I also enjoy spending quality time with my grandmothers, friends, or my boyfriend.

What qualities do you bring as an intern?

Over the past few years, I’ve often been told that I’m communicative and presentable. This has come through in presentations during my minor and previous internships. I also value teamwork highly: I’m collegial and enjoy working in a team.

How would you like to grow after your internship?

I’m still exploring where I ultimately want to go. Marketing is my main interest, but I want to experience it in practice to see if it’s truly the direction for me. Who knows what the future will bring!

What’s a fun fact about you that almost nobody knows?

After a night out, I can’t resist bokkenpootjes*, sometimes an entire pack disappears, guilty pleasure! And my favorite show at the moment? Without a doubt, B&B Vol Liefde.
